Saint Leo Welcomes Fanny Wright as Director of Military Affairs & Services

Posted by University Communications on Feb 2, 2018 1:13:03 PM

Saint Leo University recently welcomed retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Fanny Wright as the new director of Military Affairs and Services.

Portrait of Fanny WrightWright served 20 years on active duty in the Air Force in fields such as client systems support, information management, and knowledge/cyber operations, and held positions including professional military education instructor and executive administrative assistant.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Park University, and is working on a Master of Arts degree in communication and leadership. Wright also holds an associate degree in information system technology and an associate degree in instruction of technology and military science, both from the Community College of the Air Force.

In her new position, Wright is responsible for the vision, coordination, and daily operation of the Office of Military Affairs and Services. The office supports all student-veterans and military-affiliated students—not only those who study at University Campus, but also those who study online and at Saint Leo’s education centers.

“We act as liaisons/advocates for our student-veterans and military-affiliated students through transition and their educational goals, as it relates to financial aid, the GI Bill and Veterans Affairs [U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs] benefits, student services, and career planning,” Wright said of Saint Leo’s Office of Military Affairs and Services.

“I have taken off the uniform, but my service will forever be a part of me,” Wright said. “Consequently, I look forward to assisting our active/reserve military members, veterans, their dependents and survivors with their educational entitlements and needs, in hopes of helping them achieve their personal and professional endeavors. Employing the ‘pay it forward’ concept and always doing things right the first time, will also ensure our university increases its recruitment and retains our students. I am also a firm believer in teamwork, and I am part of a magnificent team who embody a ‘can-do’ attitude, making any goal attainable.”

Saint Leo’s commitment to student-veterans, ROTC, active duty military, and their spouses and families has been recognized by several publications. The university recently was named by U.S. News & World Report  as one of the 2018 Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans. The university also was named to the Military Times Best: Colleges 2018  and designated as a Top School by Military Advanced Education and Training’s 2018 Guide to Colleges & Universities.
