The inaugural Women in Data + Science Conference aims to broaden the impact and exposure of women in data-infused fields by creating a community that educates, empowers, and inspires. This interdisciplinary STEAM conference focuses on teaching the hard and soft skills needed to succeed in STEAM and encouraging women to join the field, while celebrating female trailblazers. Given the increased visibility of the struggles women face in the workplace, the conference seeks to honor women’s accomplishments in the sciences and offer networking opportunities. It is important for women to share the hurdles they encounter and their strategies for overcoming them to bolster the next generation of women in historically male-dominated industries.
The Women in Data + Science Conference is a forum for academics, industry professionals, and students to openly discuss and offer solutions to issues affecting women in data-infused fields: from gender bias to advocating for your work. Conference goers will have the chance to attend various panel presentations as well as workshops, organized by theme so you don’t miss what is most important to you! And, whether it’s during lunch, over a coffee break, or during the evening social event, there will be plenty of opportunities to network with attendees, industry executives, and the keynote speaker.
The conference also provides a wonderful opportunity for students from all majors to learn about the ever-expanding field of data science along with discovering what it takes to succeed in graduate school and the workplace. Presenters will speak on a wide range of topics, including how to find your voice in a boardroom/classroom and self-empowerment. Attendees will learn that data is EVERYWHERE, and you don’t have to be a math or science wiz to excel in a data science career.
Registration for the Women in Data + Science Conference is FREE and grants you access to a full day of panel presentations and workshops hosted by field experts on a wide-range of topics. You will also have admission to two additional events: HERstory and an evening networking social. HERstory is an all-day celebration of female trailblazers in STEAM, complete with beautiful displays and fun activities. If you want to add lunch to your conference registration, there is a $15 fee.
Now that the 2019 conference has concluded, you can relive your favorite moments or catch the sessions you missed the first time! The presenters’ slide decks are available to review. Each session was recorded, too! As soon as the videos are ready, they will be viewable on this website. Check back for updates!
