Student Health Insurance

Each student attending our traditional program at University Campus full time (12 or more credit hours) is required to carry health insurance. This policy applies to commuter students registered full time as well.

Automatic Enrollment

To assist students in following this policy, the University automatically enrolls students in the University-endorsed health insurance plan and bills their student accounts. The premium for the full 2014-2015 academic year will be $1,194.

Already Have Your Own Insurance?

Students with their own insurance through a group or individual plan may waive the coverage and avoid the fee. To waive the insurance, students should complete the online waiver process. Insurance waivers can only be submitted online. Insurance waivers for students enrolling in Fall 2014 must be completed no later than September 8, 2014.

Please note insurance waivers are NOT guaranteed and may be denied for various reasons. Reasons for denial include but are not limited to the following:

  • Student is attempting to waive with a travel medical policy
  • The waiver was filled out fraudulently
  • Student did not complete all information accurately and we are unable to verify coverage
  • Insurance policy used for the waiver is not comparable to the University policy

Note: International students may not waive this coverage unless they have coverage with a U.S. provider.

Important Dates

The online waiver process will be available for students entering in the Fall 2014 semester beginning June 20, 2014. PLEASE NOTE: Students will not have access to the waiver process until they have been registered full time. Students will receive an email when they are able to complete the waiver process. The deadline to submit completed waivers for students beginning in the Fall 2014 semester is midnight of September 8, 2014. There are no exceptions to this waiver deadline.

I want the university insurance package:

  • If you would like to participate in this coverage, simply go to https://studentcenter.uhcsr.com/saintleo to enroll. This will ensure you get access to your insurance ID card and other resources more quickly. If you take no action, we will still automatically enroll you in the plan and you will be responsible for the 2014-15 Premium.

I have my own coverage, and want to waive the university insurance package:

  • Students who have their own health insurance may be eligible to waive the coverage. To complete a waiver application, please visit https://studentcenter.uhcsr.com/saintleo. When completing the waiver, please provide complete and accurate information.  Completion of the waiver does NOT guarantee you will be waived from the university program. If your coverage is not comparable to the coverage provided through the university program or does not provide for doctors in the local area the waiver will not be approved. Failure to provide accurate information may result in delayed processing and may result in a your waiver being denied. 
  • To log into the waiver you will need your student ID number in the 7-digit format (ID Number) and your date of birth in the MM/DD/YYYY format (DOB).

Can I submit evidence of coverage using paper documents to Saint Leo?

  • All waivers MUST be completed through the online portal.  Submission of documentation of your health insurance coverage to any university representative in any other format will NOT be sufficient to waive coverage.
