Student Loan Information

Information on a Borrower’s Rights and Responsibilities, Loan Repayment, and Loan Consolidation is available in the U.S. Department of Education’s publication, “Funding Your Education.”

Students that borrow a federal student loan should be informed that the loan will be submitted to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), and will be accessible by guaranty agencies, lenders, and schools determined to be authorized users of the data system. A student’s enrollment status is reported to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) throughout her/his attendance at SLU.  Visit the NSLDS website.

College Financing Plan

Students eligible to receive Federal military or veterans’ educational benefits and who have applied for Title IV aid using the Free Application for Federal Student AID (FAFSA) can access a College Financing Plan. The College Financing Plan is a standardized financial aid offer designed by the Department of Education. It is a snapshot of a student’s personal aid package, intended to provide prospective undergraduate and graduate students with a consistent way to view costs and aid between universities. Schools are not required to use the form, though Saint Leo University has volunteered along with about 600 other institutions to provide it to inquiring prospective students. The College Financing Plan is available through the Saint Leo Portal and complies with the Principles of Excellence for Educational Institutions Serving Service Members, Veterans, Spouses, and Other Family Members.

  • Saint Leo University signed and submitted the “Recipient’s Funding Certification and Agreement for the Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the Coronavirus Economic Security (CARES) Act” on April 22, 2020.  The funding was received by Saint Leo University on May 1, 2020. 
  • $2,320,200 in emergency cash grants was distributed to 2,819 students representing more than 50% of the total Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund awarded to the University.  Approximately 7,000 students enrolled at Saint Leo University are eligible to participate in Title IV programs.
  • Saint Leo University awarded block grants to all degree seeking, Title IV eligible students who were actively attending a class that was required to move from in-person instruction to online instruction. 
  • Emergency Financial Aid Grant recipients were notified via email, text message, and via the online student portal of the award.  Students received the award via the refund method of choice that the student had provided previously.
  • The total expenditure is now $2,319,600 due to <10 students whom did not accept the award.
  • The remainder of the report is accurate.
  • This report serves as the final report for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Student Portion.

  • Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA), provides an additional $2,289,794 in funding for emergency grants to students. The funding was received by Saint Leo University on February 22, 2021.
  • Saint Leo awarded funding to eligible students as soon as possible after funds were made available, based on guidance received at that time, to cover a portion of the student’s cost of attendance (COA) for 2021 Spring terms.
  • Recipients demonstrated exceptional need as determined by EFC from the FAFSA, range used to award is 0-5711. 4330 students received the grant, totaling $2,294,900. ($5106 covered by the institution) The Federal Emergency Relief Grant funding provided emergency grants to help students meet needs that arise due to the continued pandemic. These needs may pertain to tuition, food, housing, healthcare or childcare.
  • Grant recipients were notified via email, text message, and via the online student portal of the award. Students received the award via the refund method of choice that the student selected.

The Federal Emergency Grants for Spring 2022:

  • Saint Leo University (Saint Leo) signed & returned a Certification & Agreement with the Department of Education to accept allocated funds from the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2. The ARP established and funded the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) to provide emergency financial aid grants. These critical funds help eligible Saint Leo students cover emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus or eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare.
  • Federal Emergency Aid Grant Reporting: As of January 21, 2022, Saint Leo was allocated a total of $15,724,865 from HEERF I, HEERF II and HEERF III for students to fund the Federal Emergency Financial Aid Grants. HEERF I and HEERF II had been expended with $11,145,277 in HEERF III remaining. The estimated total number of students potentially eligible to be considered to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants in quarter 1 was approximately 8,100. As of March 31, 2022, $5,460,000 in HEERF III funds has been disbursed to 2,730 unduplicated students.

Federal Emergency Aid Grant Criteria and Eligibility:
Saint Leo awarded block grants to students with prioritization for students who demonstrate exceptional need. The block grants were tiered according to the following groupings.

  • Group 1: Saint Leo initially made federal HEERF III funds available in a block grant to domestic undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional need as determined by EFC from the 2021-2022 FAFSA. EFC Range used to award is 0-5846.
  • Group 2: Saint Leo then made federal HEERF III funds available in a block grant to the remainder of the enrolled domestic undergraduate population.
  • Group 3: Saint Leo also made federal HEERF III funds available in a block grant to enrolled graduate, doctoral, and international students.

Grant recipients were notified via email, and via the online student portal of the grant. Students received the award via the refund method of choice that the student selected or had the opportunity to complete an authorization form to allow funding to pay applicable charges on the student account.
