Success of "40 Dollars/40 Years Campaign" exceeds expectations.

A special campaign to support Saint Leo University's Military Student Services Fund has raised more than $10,247.

The "40 Dollars/40 Years Campaign" was conducted as part of Saint Leo University's 40th anniversary celebration of educating service men and women.

The campaign represented the first time in the university's history that an individual campaign was conducted to benefit a specific initiative within the Saint Leo Fund. It was also the first time that a campaign had been held with such a short timeline.

"While we were hopeful that the Saint Leo community would respond for such a worthy effort, this was a unique campaign, so we were not sure what to expect," said Elizabeth Barr, associate director in the Saint Leo Annual Fund Office. "The response, however – both in terms of contributions and the positive feedback we have received – has been overwhelming."

Barr said the university received more online donations on Tuesday and Wednesday of the campaign than on any other single day in the school's history.

"Seeing so many departments coming together to honor our servicemen and women and our university's mission to provide them with a Saint Leo education has made this an exciting and rewarding project.

"It really epitomizes our Saint Leo core value of community."

The Military Student Services Fund was created earlier this year to provide a way for the Saint Leo community to give back to students who are active and retired military by designating their gift specifically for programs and services that support military students.

Monies collected for the Military Student Services Fund during the "40 Dollars/40 Years Campaign" will be used to underwrite initiatives and projects of the Veteran Student Services Office.

The office serves as the focal point for resources and support for veteran and active military students who are attending classes at University Campus, a center, or throught the Center for Online Learning. Specifically, the office assists active and retired service members seeking assistance in navigating the unfamiliar world of academia by providing support, information, and a connection to resources that meet their needs as veterans, service members, and students.
