Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a reminder that digital threats do not stop at national borders, and neither should the research needed to address them. Saint Leo University is expanding the global technology conversation through ICT Latin America: A Bilingual Journal of Information Systems and Technology.

The peer-reviewed, indexed journal provides a platform for researchers across Latin America and the broader global academic community to share scholarship in both English and Spanish, with a particular focus on the opportunities and challenges created by information and communication technologies.

“Never has it been more urgent to strengthen connections between the Latin American community and the U.S. ICT Latin America helps bridge the gap between Spanish-speaking academic communities and the global information systems research landscape,” said Dr. Edward Santiago, assistant professor of computer science in Saint Leo University’s Tapia College of Business and Technology. “As a peer-reviewed and indexed platform, it connects business and technology communities across the American hemisphere, bringing important regional research into a broader academic conversation.”

The journal’s inaugural issue, Vol. 1, No. 1 (2026): Foundations, Innovation, and Digital Transformation to Bridge the Digital Gap, was published at the start of the academic year. The issue examines how technology can contribute to greater equity and digital access, with research addressing topics ranging from artificial intelligence ethics to e-government in rural municipalities.

Cybersecurity is among the journal’s areas of focus, alongside emerging issues at the intersection of technology, information systems, and business. Its scope includes:

  • AI security and governance, including data privacy, machine learning vulnerabilities, threat modeling, and ethical compliance.
  • Artificial intelligence and business systems, including the use of AI to create competitive advantage.
  • Strategic AI integration, including enterprise adoption, return on investment, and leadership strategies.
  • Business analytics, including natural language processing, predictive analytics, and automated decision-making.
  • Workforce and organizational dynamics, including human-AI collaboration, workforce development, and organizational change.
  • Infrastructure and emerging technologies, including edge AI, cloud computing, and the management of local and cloud-based large language models.

By publishing research abstracts in both English and Spanish, ICT Latin America aims to expand access to scholarship and strengthen connections among emerging scholars, graduate students, and established researchers working across the region and beyond.

Instructor Steven Alt serves as the journal’s editor in chief, and Santiago serves as its Spanish-language editor.

The journal is currently accepting article submissions for its next volume, with a deadline of May 15, 2027.
