    Cheri Chambers, Ph.D

    Associate Professor Dr. Cheri Chambers is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and has been a member of the Saint Leo University community since 2015. She has a PhD in Sociology with specializations in Crime & Social Control and Inequality from North Carolina State University, a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina and a B.A. in Political Science/Pre-Law from Michigan State University. Before coming to Saint Leo she taught at Christopher Newport University, worked as a Victim/Witness Advocate, volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem and has over 15 years teaching experience in criminal justice, criminology and sociology. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate criminal justice courses in the Department of Public Safety Administration. She is a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS), and is the Treasurer for SWS-South. Her research interests have recently focused on the opioid epidemic, drug laws and institutional racism, and crime and media. Previous research interests have involved policing and racial profiling. She has published a book on drug laws and institutional racism and articles on policing and crime and media.
