    Marissa McLargin, MA

    Instructor

Marissa McLargin is an Instructor of English and Professional Writing in the Department of Language Studies and the Arts at Saint Leo University’s main campus. She teaches general education and humanities courses, including Academic Writing I and II, along with courses in the professional writing track of the English major.

Marissa received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Philosophy from Mercer University. She later earned a Master of Arts degree in literature and a graduate certificate in creative writing from the University of South Florida. Her master’s portfolio centered on appropriation of voice and the marginalization of women and female literary characters.

With more than twenty years of professional writing experience, Marissa was previously employed by the Pasco County School Board, where she taught advanced writing and literature courses and developed secondary English Language Arts curriculum for the district. In her teaching role, Marissa was named a Distinguished Educator by the Florida Department of Education. Prior to working at the secondary level, Marissa taught first-year composition at the University of South Florida and worked in USF’s Writing Center.

Marissa’s research interests include the politicization of victimhood, social constructs as they pertain to systems of oppression, and the notion of language and silence as means of power and control. When she’s not reading or writing, Marissa enjoys sports, the arts, and wide open spaces.
