Christopher R. Friend, Ph.D.
Chris Friend earned an English B.A., a Curriculum & Instruction M.Ed., and a Texts & Technology Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida (UCF). Prior to arrival at Saint Leo University he taught at UCF and Seminole County Public Schools (Florida). Dr. Friend specializes in rhetoric and composition studies, hybrid learning, and critical pedagogy. He currently teaches foundational writing courses for the Department of Language Studies & the Arts, as well as critical-thinking and capstone courses for the online Liberal Studies program. When he is not in the classroom, research interests include composition pedagogy and the intersections of pedagogy and technology in digital humanities. Dr. Friend is the director of Hybrid Pedagogy, as well as producer of its podcast, the HybridPod. He regularly facilitates pedagogy-centric courses for Digital Pedagogy Lab (Fredericksburg, VA and Denver, CO) and the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (Victoria, BC) and keynoted at the New Horizons conference in Trondheim, Norway. Friend is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Council of Writing Program Administrators (CWPA).
