A native of Ireland, Dr. Padraig Lawlor is Assistant Professor of History at Saint Leo University, having earned his Ph.D. in European History at Purdue University. He also holds an M.Phil. in Early Modern History from Trinity College Dublin; a H. Dip. In Irish History from Maynooth University, and a B.A. (History; English) from Maynooth University.
Since joining Saint Leo, he has taught courses involving empire, imperialism and colonialism, revolution, violence and humanitarianism in liberal empires, and global and transnational history. He also teaches a variety of special topic courses such as "Witchcraft and Magic in History," and "The Real Game of Thrones: Medieval Monsters and Monarchies." He currently serves as faculty advisor to Phi Alpha Theta.
While Dr. Lawlor teaches on an array of topics entrenched in European history, his scholarship focuses on Early Modern Britain and Ireland. He is currently working on a book manuscript, titled, "God's Preservationists: The Championing of Conformity in Interregnum England, 1649-1660." This project explores the preservation of the Church of England in Interregnum England, an event which instigated the restoration of the Stuart monarchy and their subsequent stranglehold of the British Atlantic World. He has published articles and reviews in venues such as the Journal of Political Theology, Seventeenth-Century News, H-Albion Journal, History Journal, and Capital & Class Journal.
