Sergiy Borysov received his Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv, Ukraine, and his second Ph.D. degree in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the Byrd Alzheimer's Institute and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Besides conducting biomedical research, Dr. Borysov was teaching biological science courses at the University of South Florida and at the University of Tampa. Dr. Borysov joined the faculty at Saint Leo University in the Fall of 2016.
Molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and human diseases are the focal point of the courses that Dr. Borysov had developed and taught. His academic interests include engaging students in scientific research and utilizing biomolecular research as a powerful hands-on learning tool.
Dr. Borysov's scientific interests include regulation and execution of the cell cycle; cell cycle abnormalities that lead to human diseases, in particular, cancer; regulation of the DNA helicase; and target-based drug development.
