Dr. Anyikwa is an Associate Professor of Social Work in the Graduate Social Work Department. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Queens College in New York, a Master’s Degree in Social Work from New York University, and a Ph.D. in Social Work from Barry University in Miami Shores.
Dr. Anyikwa currently teaches Social Work Research Methods, Social Work Macro Practice, and Evidence Based Practice/program evaluation. As the MSW program broadens offerings to trauma-informed care series in Summer 2020, Dr. Anyikwa is committed to building and teaching a course on trauma informed care with vulnerable populations. Her research interests and publications are in mental health, trauma, domestic violence, cultural competence, particularly as it relates to people of African descent, women, children and families. Her interest expands to macro areas in organizational behavior, leadership and program evaluation with a focus on the responsibility to the provision of culturally competent services. Dr. Anyikwa has spent many years in mental health and social services in clinical and executive positions, including as Commissioner of Social Services in Greenwich, Connecticut.
