The Career Services team assists students with all phases of career development. We offer career guidance, job search training, résumé advice, interview skills, and professional networking. We support the mission of Saint Leo University by offering a practical and effective model for life and leadership in a challenging world.

Nancy Cheek has worked in higher education since 2000, as an instructor and advisor to in-classroom and online students in a variety of programs—including liberal arts and design. Understanding these programs can be challenging as they relate to career planning, she went on to learn more about the relationship between academia and the workplace, earning an MA in career and technical education from the University of South Florida. In addition, Cheek has extensive experience providing and organizing remote events and offering assistance to a virtual community of adult learners. “No matter where you are geographically or professionally, I will help you develop an individual career path,” she said.
Cheek is from Queens, NY, and attended New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury for her undergraduate degree. She also is a graduate of St. Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows, NY, the largest Catholic high school in the United States
Amanda Ferguson joined the Saint Leo team in August 2019. She has been a Student Affairs professional since 2015, where her areas of expertise included: student activities, event planning, career readiness, and student advising. Ferguson completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and her Bachelor of Arts in communication sciences and disorders at the University of South Florida, and received her Master of Education degree from the University of Florida.
Prior to Saint Leo, she worked at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC. Ferguson values volunteering, especially through her involvement in Greek Life and professional associations. She loves getting to know the students, staff, and faculty at the institution where she is working and places a high value on relationships.
Omar Cosme has worked in various educator roles since 2015. Throughout his career, he has worked to support English Language Learners, international students, and students with exceptionalities at all levels. After an undergraduate experience marked by dedication to service, collaboration, and accessibility, Omar earned a B.S. in English Education from the University of South Florida. Gaining an interest in the connections between positive leadership and student achievement, he is now completing a M.A. in Educational Leadership. Omar currently serves on the Career Services team at Saint Leo University as Assistant Director, Career Services.
Janet VanGuilder joined Saint Leo University in the Fall of 2007 as a student and graduated with her BA in business management with a minor in accounting in 2011. In the summer of 2011, following her graduation, VanGuilder became an employee of the university, working as the senior coordinator for Student Services. Since the fall of 2018, she has served as the senior coordinator for the Office of Accessibility Services and Career Services.
VanGuilder has been an advisor for the Leo for St. Jude fundraiser on campus since 2012. While working for Saint Leo, she has been awarded the Beth G. Evans Outstanding Staff Member Award 2012-2013 and Outstanding Club Advisor 2013-2014.
