Why Earn Your Bachelors in Biology - Ecology at Saint Leo University?
Students in the Ecology track can count on “learning by doing”. Students learn about the environment by spending time in the environment. Whether classes consist of canoeing on Saint Leo’s own Lake Jovita, hiking and conducting research in nearby parks and wildlife preserves, or on the water studying marine life, faculty know how to use the outdoors as a classroom.
Field-trips are not limited to Florida. Saint Leo University Ecology track students have the opportunity to study abroad. Saint Leo science students have studied in Peru, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, Costa Rica, and Panama. Future field-trips with Saint Leo faculty may also include Belize, the Pacific Northwest, the Caribbean, and South America.
Students also have the opportunity to engage in undergraduate research projects with faculty members. Recent examples of undergraduate research projects include oyster reef restoration, mangrove monitoring, and rain forest assessment. Participation in real-world research fosters deeper understanding of science and hones problem-solving skills in a way that no classroom activity can.
