Bachelor's Degree in History - Education Minor

Why Earn Your History Degree at Saint Leo University?

Perhaps you love history because a teacher once brought the Old West to life with tales of the Pony Express and Buffalo Bill. Or maybe you heard Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and “equal opportunity” took on new meaning. Now it’s your turn to make history relevant and exciting for the next generation.

Strike a unique balance with interdisciplinary study in History and Education: Explore important ideas from ancient times to the present, and gain new perspective on today’s social, political and economic climate—plus the skills to teach social studies at the secondary level.

Master effective strategies—including emerging technologies—for teaching history to adolescents, including special education, multicultural and at-risk populations. You may opt to complete the full-time internship, where you'll practice working in a high school setting, sharing knowledge of history. You're in good hands—Saint Leo’s Education department has been named a national finalist for the Distinguished Program in Teacher Education Award, presented by the Association of Teacher Educators.

Undergraduate History Program Details

Saint Leo University offers a minor in education for students in other majors who may want to teach at the secondary level, but for whom teaching is not their first career choice.  The minor is not recommended for students who plan to become certified teachers in K-12 classrooms, because it does not offer the same marketability or extensive professional preparation as the education major. Students wishing to major in history who plan to teach may consider pursuing a double major in History and Education or an Education major with a specialization in Social Studies.
