Over the past several years, Saint Leo University students have had the opportunity to study counterterrorism strategies in Israel. Thanks to a unique partnership with Security Solutions International, these trips have provided exclusive access for the students to visit locations typically off-limits to the public and meet with government officials.

Students in criminal justice degree programs, social work, psychology, and education have participated in these study abroad experiences. Not only do they get exposed to the cutting-edge solutions Israel has come up with to mitigate crime in recent years, but they also get exposed to a country that finds itself situated in such a volatile part of the world.

Dr. Robert Sullivan, a professor in several of Saint Leo's criminal justice degree programs, joined the Saint Leo 360 podcast to discuss the latest trip that he took with students in the summer of 2018. During this engaging conversation, Sullivan spoke about a number of topics, including:

  • Where the students got to visit in Israel and who they got to meet
  • How the students were perceived by the Israelis
  • The counterterrorism strategies Israel has used to significantly reduce terrorist attacks and crime within its nation
  • What takeaways the students learned from the experience
  • What makes Israel such a unique country
