Two new scholarships designed for adults working in public safety professions and as health care practitioners who want to earn a college degree online are now available.

In honor of working adults who serve their communities while achieving their educational goals, Saint Leo University's Center for Online Learning has established two new scholarships: the Public Safety Scholarship and the Caring Professions Scholarship.

Both scholarships are:

  • Worth up to a maximum of $1,200 per 12-month period ($200 maximum per term)
  • For full-time or part-time students in one of Saint Leo's online bachelor's degree programs
  • Are available to new online students who are beginning their degree programs with the Fall I term (Aug. 24) and cannot be combined with any other Saint Leo scholarship or tuition discount rate.

"Saint Leo has a long and proud history of providing educational opportunities to busy working adults," says Jeff Walsh, associate vice president enrollment & support services. "We are pleased to announce these new scholarships to recognize the commitment of adult learners."

The two new scholarships are being offered in addition to the Military Spouse Scholarship and the Academic Readiness Scholarship, which are also available to new online students.

Public Safety Scholarship

New online students who are currently employed in one of the following positions are eligible for the Public Safety Scholarship: police and public safety professional, fire safety professional, emergency medical technician, dispatcher and paramedic, park and forest ranger, or disaster response team member (including FEMA, Department of Homeland Security personnel, non-activated National Guard).

Caring Professions Scholarship

The Caring Professions Scholarship is designed for new students enrolling in one of the following online programs:

In addition, students must be employed in one of the following health care practitioner positions: nurse, physician assistant, dietitian, therapist, clinical personnel, phlebotomist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech pathologist, audiologist, optometrist, paramedic, emergency medical technician, medical laboratory scientist, medical prosthetic technician, radiographer, social worker, or professional counselor.
