I have been watching the situation on Capitol Hill and find myself disappointed with the way in which disagreement has been expressed in our nation lately. I am confident that everyone in our community has been hoping and praying for a peaceful resolution.

Despite the events of yesterday, I continue to be confident that our system of government is strong enough to withstand this day. We all need to speak up and help build a better society and community as we are called to do rather than just lament this event.

I am also convinced that Saint Leo University, and higher education more broadly, has an important role to play in ensuring that our democracy continues to thrive. Our individual and collective voices are needed to ensure that our democracy continues to prosper today, tomorrow, and in the decades to come.

Please join me in praying for our local, state, and national leaders for our recovery from these all too divisive times.

May God bless all of you and may God bless the United States of America.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Senese, Ph.D.
