On Valentine’s Day, people express why they love others.

We’re going a step further by spreading some additional love today that falls into a different realm – higher education. We’ve asked several Saint Leo University students what they love most about the university:

“I love Saint Leo because of its Roman Catholic roots. I adore Saint Leo because of its core values. I embrace Saint Leo because of the students and faculty, notably Dr. Wendy Nesheim and Sophina Marshall.” - Adam Valeski, a student pursuing a master’s in emergency and disaster management online degree

“The instructors are dedicated to our education, personable, and always respond with enthusiasm for the subject. Their inspiration can’t help but to spill out onto their students. Saint Leo’s faculty and staff encourage everyone to achieve our goals while providing real-world aspects that we can take with us into our profession tomorrow.” – Rachael Shields, a Saint Leo student working toward a master’s in criminal justice with a specialization in corrections

“I love Dr. Helen MacLennan, one of my business professors. The atmosphere she sets in her classes makes for a very relaxing and comfortable learning environment. She’s very interactive with her students and very respectful of everyone. I also like the flexibility of my degree program. It fits my lifestyle quite well. Plus, everyone has been very helpful.” – Lechard Jones, a 15-year U.S. Air Force vet who worked as a personnel specialist and now takes courses at Saint Leo’s MacDill AFB Education Office in the bachelor’s in human resource management program

“The amount of gratitude that I feel for Saint Leo University is exponential. As someone who is a lifelong learner, I wanted to pursue a terminal degree to further my expertise and knowledge. When looking at different programs and visiting those programs, I truly had a connection with the Saint Leo campus and everyone that I met on my visit. The tour I was given by the person that was my key relationship with my application process was my deciding factor. Now that I am more than halfway through my Doctor of Business Administration program, I do not regret my decision because the relationships I have made with my professors and especially my fellow cohort will be lifelong friendships.” – Jordan Hutchison, an online DBA student

“I love the faculty and convenience of this location. Also, the Air Force’s core values directly align with those of Saint Leo University, such as excellence, community service, and service before self.” - Cedric Parson, a soon-to-be-retired Air Force master sergeant who is pursuing a healthcare administration undergraduate degree at the MacDill AFB Education Office

“By coming to Saint Leo,, I was able to figure out what I want to do for a career. Upon graduating from high school, I didn’t have a clue about what I wanted to do in the future. During my freshman year, I still didn’t have a good idea about what I wanted to do. However, I knew that I wanted it to be business-oriented. The faculty that I have had the pleasure of meeting through the various classes I have taken opened my mind up to all the different avenues of business and what each one has to offer. Because of this, I was able to pinpoint the exact career that I wanted and accurately plan out how I would get there.” – Malik Buckley, who is earning a bachelor’s in marketing at University Campus

“Every time I fill out an end-of-course evaluation about my instructors, I am honestly always saying, ‘This was the best class I’ve ever had.’ All of the criminal justice faculty are amazing. I loved the idea of being taught by faculty with practical experience rather than just reading out of a book.” – Tim Robinson, an active-duty U.S. Navy sailor who is currently pursuing an online master’s in criminal justice degree with a specialization in criminal investigations

“My aunt and uncle both went to Saint Leo, and my mom even went here for a short time. When I came to campus for the first time, I knew in my heart that it was the right place for me to be. The campus is smaller, you get to be in smaller classes, and you really get to know your professors well.” – Isabella Jacus, a biology major at University Campus
