    Debra E. Thrower, Ph.D, MSW

    Assistant Professor, Faculty of Undergraduate Social Work

    Dr. Thrower is an Assistant Professor of Social Work in the College of Education and Social Services in the Undergraduate Social Work Department. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of South Florida, and a Ph.D. in Social Work from Walden University. She also has a Graduate Certificate in Evaluation from the University of South Florida.
    Dr. Thrower currently teaches undergraduate social work courses. Dr. Thrower has 30 years of social work experience with various populations; direct practice, program management and evaluation, consultation, academic administration, and social work education. She has served in faith-based organizations, government, and non-profit sectors. Dr. Thrower uses her knowledge, skills, and abilities to engage, mentor, and support her students from the classroom to field education/internships and beyond. In 2021, Dr. Thrower received the Social Work Educator of the Year Award by the National Association of Social Workers - Florida - Tampa Bay Unit.
    Her research interests and publications are in evaluation, university and community collaboration, and ethics curriculum requirements in micro, mezzo, and macro social work practice courses.
