In order to foster an environment that promotes academic success, it is vital that students take certain courses early in their academic careers. To ensure this, Saint Leo University requires that all incoming University Campus students complete the Math and English placement before you can register for your first semester of classes. Students are encouraged to complete placement exams shortly after paying your deposit to the university. Think you may be exempt from Placement Exams? Click here to learn more.
To ensure correct placement, completion of Placement Exam is required. The Placement Exam takes approximately two hours. There are four sections:
• English - 1, 15 minutes, to measure knowledge of grammar and punctuation.
• English - 2, 40 minutes, to measure critical thinking & effective communication through essay composition.
• Math - 1, 30 minutes, to measure knowledge of basic algebra.
• Math - 2, 35 minutes to measure knowledge of intermediate algebra.
To guarantee placement in the English and Math courses that best reflect your skills and abilities, Saint Leo University encourages students to take placement exams seriously. Students needing accommodations should contact the Office of Accessibility Services to submit a formal request for ADA accommodations and provide necessary documentation. Students who do not complete both English and Math Placement Exams will be placed in ENG 002-Basic Composition Skills and MAT 003-Basic Algebra. All students are expected to uphold Saint Leo University's Core Value of Integrity as well as the university's Academic Honor Code.
Placement exams can be completed online using ProctorU, an online proctoring service. or on campus at the Center for Academic Vision & Excellence on the 1st floor of Kirk Hall
