Verification confirms through documentation review that the information provided on a student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is accurate. Students are selected for verification by the Department of Education or Saint Leo if conflicting information is presented. The verification process prevents ineligible students from receiving aid by reporting false information and ensures that eligible students receive all of the aid for which they are qualified.
Students must use Financial Aid Forms to submit all verification forms and documents. When a student is selected for verification, an email is sent to the student's Saint Leo University email address. This email will direct students to set up an account in Financial Aid Forms at https://saintleo.verifymyfafsa.com. Additional instructions will be provided. It should be noted that students MUST upload all items to Financial Aid Forms when submitting verification materials. Verification documents that are sent to Student Financial Services by email, mail, fax, or hand delivered will be rejected.
Students who are selected for verification will not be eligible to receive financial aid until all documents have been received and reviewed. It is important that students respond to requests for documentation in a timely manner to avoid delays in applying financial aid as a credit to student bills. If a student has received a fund disbursement prior to being selected for verification, verification must be completed or the student will become ineligible for financial aid and will be obligated to return the disbursed funds. The student must then pay any resulting balance on their student account.
Students selected for verification are notified by email that additional documents are needed. This email will be sent to students’ Saint Leo email addresses only.
The Student Financial Services Office will review the submitted documentation and make changes as necessary. The student should refrain from making additional changes unless instructed by the Student Financial Services Office.
Once verification is complete, the student will receive an award notification, unless he or she has already received one and nothing has changed.
Students should log into Financial Aid Forms at https://saintleo.verifymyfafsa.com in order to view what documents and forms are required to complete the verification process.
All financial aid applicants selected for verification must complete the process prior to the deadline published in the appropriate Federal Register. Students should review the appropriate policy (below) and anticipate submitting all verification documents two weeks prior to the deadline published in the policy in order to ensure their verification can be completed and financial aid processed prior to that deadline.
