Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics - Education Minor

Why Earn Your Mathematics Degree at Saint Leo University?

School districts across the country need qualified math teachers who can make this fundamental and challenging subject accessible to all students. Saint Leo’s Mathematics major with minor in Education prepares you to meet that demand.

Strike a unique balance with interdisciplinary study in Mathematics and Education: Build a foundation in statistics, calculus, algebra and computer programming, and learn innovative methods to teach these subjects to middle and secondary school students, including special education, multicultural and at-risk populations.

Students must select at least 9 credits from 300- or 400-level mathematics courses to fulfill their major electives and up to 6 credits of Engineering or Computer Programing courses.

Saint Leo University offers a minor in education for students in other majors who may want to teach at the secondary level, but  for whom teaching is not their first career choice.  The minor is not recommended for students who plan to become certified teachers in K-12 classrooms, because it does not offer the same marketability or extensive professional preparation as the education major.  Students wishing to major in math who plan to teach may consider pursuing a double major in Math and Education or an Education major with a specialization in math.
